It was bedtime in Maya's house. Maya had brushed her teeth, put on her purple pyjamas, and climbed into bed next to her toy rabbit. Outside the window, the moon was round and bright. A small, friendly face peeked over the windowsill. It was Pip the fox, Maya's best friend. "Are you awake?" asked Pip. "Something has happened.""The snow-rabbits can't find the path to their burrow," said Pip. "The new snow has covered it all up." "Then we'll find it together," said Maya. Maya wrapped up in a purple scarf, and together Maya and Pip slid down the first hill on a little wooden sled. Their breath made little clouds in the cold air.Maya looked carefully and noticed a row of little bumps in the snow, all in a line. They were the tops of the fence posts that lead to the burrow. Maya and Pip followed them, one by one. At the end was a small round door, and the snow-rabbits hopped inside, warm and safe.Pip walked Maya all the way home. Maya climbed back into bed, warm and cosy, with her toy rabbit close by. "Goodnight, Pip," whispered Maya. "Goodnight, Maya," said Pip. "See you tomorrow night." And soon Maya was fast asleep.
