It was bedtime in Maya's house. Maya had brushed her teeth, put on her purple pyjamas, and climbed into bed next to her toy rabbit. Outside the window, the moon was round and bright. A small, friendly face peeked over the windowsill. It was Pip the fox, Maya's best friend. "Are you awake?" asked Pip. "Something has happened.""The snowman on the hill has lost his smile," said Pip. "The wind blew it away, and now he looks so sad." "Smiles can be found again," said Maya. Maya wrapped up in a purple scarf, and together Maya and Pip slid down the first hill on a little wooden sled. The snow sparkled under the moon like sugar.Maya gathered small, smooth pebbles from under the snow, one at a time. Together they made the snowman a brand new smile, the biggest one on the hill. The snowman looked so happy that even the moon seemed to grin.Pip walked Maya all the way home. Maya climbed back into bed, warm and cosy, with her toy rabbit close by. "Goodnight, Pip," whispered Maya. "Goodnight, Maya," said Pip. "See you tomorrow night." And soon Maya was fast asleep.
