It was bedtime in Maya's house. Maya had brushed her teeth, put on her purple pyjamas, and climbed into bed next to her toy rabbit. Outside the window, the moon was round and bright. A small, friendly face peeked over the windowsill. It was Pip the fox, Maya's best friend. "Are you awake?" asked Pip. "Something has happened.""The moon has lost her cloud blanket," said Pip. "She's too chilly to sleep when the morning comes." "We can find it," said Maya. "Clouds can't have gone far." Maya and Pip stepped onto a moonbeam, and it carried them gently up, past the rooftops and the treetops and the clouds. A friendly comet swished past, leaving a trail of sparkles. The blanket had drifted behind a little planet. Maya and Pip gathered it up, soft as wool. They tucked it around the moon, and she sighed a happy, silvery sigh. "Thank you," said the moon. "Now we can all sleep well."Pip walked Maya all the way home. Maya climbed back into bed, warm and cosy, with her toy rabbit close by. "Goodnight, Pip," whispered Maya. "Goodnight, Maya," said Pip. "See you tomorrow night." And soon Maya was fast asleep.
